Spring Campout at Washington Monument State Park

To participate in our April 6-7 Spring Pack Overnighter at Washington Monument State Park, a permission slip must be filled out for the scout (attached to this event in Scoutbook). Health Form AB is required for *all* participants including adults and siblings. If you have completed the form within the last year it is still valid.

What do I need to pack?

Scouts can wear their yellow “Class B” shirts rather than their uniforms.

The pack has reserved Youth Group sites 2 & 4. Official check-in time is 3pm, so no tents should be setup before that time. This park is along the Appalachian Trail so plan to do some hiking!

Directions:

Take 270 North towards Frederick. In Frederick, take 70 towards Hagerstown. Take Exit 49, MD Alternate Route 40. Travel westbound (turn left) on Alternate 40 for approximately 9 miles. At the top of South Mountain, turn right on Washington Monument Road. After 1 mile, the road intersects with Zittlestown Road at a four-way stop. Go straight to enter the park.

Amenities:

  • Appalachian Trail Access
  • A small museum commemorates the Civil War Battle of South Mountain
  • A stone monument to George Washington built by the citizens of Boonsboro in 1827
  • Greenbrier State Park is nearby
